In Belgium last year, slightly more Visa cards issued. The number of payment transactions has increased, but the average amount per transaction was indeed lower. That was on a press conference of Visa Europe.
"People now use their cards for smaller amounts. We have special campaign conducted", said Senior Vice President Pedro Deserrano.
2.8 million Visa cards in Belgium
In Belgium in 2009 were 2.8 million Visa credit cards in circulation, an increase of 1.6 percent since 2008. The number of transactions rose by 4.7 percent to 71.9 million euros. The average amount per transaction was at 91.1 million, a decrease of 2.9 percent on the year. Altogether 6.5 billion euros was paid with a Visa card.
At European level (36 European countries, including Turkey and Israel), increased the 
number of cards (credit and debit) by 5.3 percent to 380.2 million. The number of transactions increased by 8.2 percent, to 17 billion. The average amount per transaction fell again, by 4.1 percent to 50 euros.

METZINGEN (Dow Jones) – Hugo Boss AG is getting a new Chief Financial Officer. As the fashion group from Metzingen announced on Monday, the Supervisory Board of the MDAX-listed group at its meeting today, Mark Langer, with effect 15 January on the Board and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) ordered.
The 41-year-old enters the further particulars that the Successor to Norbert Unterharnscheidt, who resigned for personal Reasons, and "the best of terms" with the Board on 15 January, resigned.
Mark Langer is from 1 January 2003 in the Hugo Boss Group active and, among other Director Controlling, Finance and Senior Vice President of the worldwide storage business.
